  This clinic came highly recommended from a neighbor. Our first couple of visits went fine; however, today I had an experience that could legitimately endager the lives of children. My son is sick. He had begun wheezing and coughing. This evolved overnight from what my husband and I believed to be an ear infection the day before. We were running late the morning of the appointment. My husband called ahead to make sure our son could still be seen. He was told verbally over the phone that our son could still be seen. Unfortunately, he did not catch the person's name over the telephone. Upon our arrival, the front desk staff demanded that we provide a reason for our tardiness and that we would not be seen unless Dr. Gonzalez deemed our excuse acceptable and her schedule permitted. During the course of this entire conversation I am holding a wheezing toddler. The front desk clerk finally says that we can be seen, but there are three patients who have to all be taken care of before our son can be seen. I left and went to an urgent care. I called back to speak to the nurse manager, Felicia, who was helpful and stated that our son's symptoms should have been known before we were turned away. I wonder, what type of pediatrician turns away a toddler with breathing problems for being fifteen minutes late? Not to mention, we called in advance of being late to see if we could be seen and we were told 'yes'. This experience has truly given me some things to consider about what type of care I want my children to receive in the future. UPDATE: After effectively turning my son away (Wait an indefinite amount of time for care or leave), this office had the audacity to charge my family $25 for "missing our appointment." We did not MISS OUR APPOINTMENT. We arrived, were late, called to state that we were 10-15 minutes away, told to come in to be seen, and then turned away. We were there and were asking to be seen!!! Stay away!!! This place is a disgrace and does not deserve to serve the children of Columbia SC.
